Types of Steel Strapping
Steel Strapping
Steel strapping has been the most trusted strapping solution for the shipping industry since it was invented. Steel has in fact been part of the industry before the highways were created. Even today, in an age where many lightweight alternatives are available, steel continues to be trusted for so many purposes in different industries:
- To ensure that the cargo remains lashed tightly
- To keep the operations running
- To secure loads
There are so many industries and jobs where steel strapping tools are the only solution to the problem. Steel straps are available in a multitude of widths, with different accessories and tools and equipments to help you complete your strapping applications in a reliable way. Its applications extend into so many industries including construction, agriculture, energy industry, and much more.
Types of Steel Strapping
There are a few options in steel strapping to suit to different types of needs. The 3 main types of steel straps are as following:
- Regular Duty Steel Straps: This type of steel strapping is made to comply with the requirements of close-tolerance and rigid quality specifications. It is available in a variety of widths, gauges, and finishes for different types of applications. Regular duty steel straps are meant for general applications.
- High Tensile (HT) Steel Straps: HT steel strapping, as the name suggests, is made to achieve optimal results in all kinds of strapping applications. It is made using cold rolled steel having high carbon content to achieve characteristics of uniform elongation and tensile strength.
It stands for exceptionally high strength and shock resistance, something difficult to find in plastic strapping. This type of strapping can be used for a wide range of applications, even those involving heavy steel coils, unitizing compressed bales, securing open top car, and in the most demanding railroad industry applications.
- Pro Zinc Silver Steel Strapping: This type of steel strapping is not as common, but it has many advantages over black steel straps. One of the advantages is that it has superior resistance to rust.
Steel straps can also vary in terms of the wound type. The different wound types include oscillated wound, jumbo coil, and ribbon wound. Steel straps can be used with different types of seals and securing systems, a big advantage over cord strapping. This includes the following options:
- Buckles
- Open seals
- Push seals
- Closed seals
Stainless steel strapping offers many of the same benefits of steel straps, while also offering improved performance at many levels.
